Kapwa Rondalla Ensemble Made First Public Performance at Sentro Rizal Agana

31 December 2024, Guam - Members of the KAPWA Rondalla Ensemble rendered their first public performance at Sentro Rizal Agana on 23 December 2024 before Consul General Rosario P. Lemque and the Agana PCG personnel.

The Ensemble’s performance was composed of the following Christmas songs, namely; 1) Christmas Classic Medley: Jingle Bells, Deck The Hall, Ding Dong Merrily on High, and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus; 2) Himig Pasko; and 3) Joy to the World.

Consul General Rosario P. Lemque thanked the group for the visit, saying “You should be proud of yourselves as you are playing a very unique musical instrument, the banduria, smaller than the guitar but with many strings that produces distinct Filipino sound and tunes. May your group be an inspiration to the Filipino younger generation in preserving and promoting our culture and traditions on Guam.”

In reply, the group’s leader, Ms. Julianna Fernando expressed her gratitude to Consul General Lemque for the warm welcome and hospitality and for allowing their groups' first public performance at the Consulate. She said, “Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our shared mission. As we gather this season, let us reflect on the importance of nurturing cultural pride and ensuring that our traditions are passed on to future generations. Our Rondalla ensemble, KAPWA, is a shining symbol of what we can achieve together - a community of young people united by culture, inspired by tradition, and driven by the promise of a brighter future.”

The Kapwa Rondalla Ensemble, composed primarily of young musicians of Filipino descent, delivered their performance under the guidance and arrangements of their musical director, Mr. Norman Babia.END
