Save the date: Launch of The Balai Kalipay Tour on 11 October at 6:00 pm Guam time with a panel discussion on Mindanao Art before the Virtual Tour
Since 1991, October has been officially declared as Museums and Galleries Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 798, s 1991. For this year, the theme “Showcasing the Nation, Shaping the Filipino Imagination” was chosen to highlight the complex and challenging role of museums and galleries in presenting the national narrative that unites the whole Philippine nation.
You are cordially invited to the an online 360-degree virtual tour entitled “In Focus: Mindanao Art Featuring Balai Kalipay” that will run from 11 to 31 October 2021 through the DFA Facebook page and Youtube channel.
Balai Kalipay is a museum gallery situated in the lush mountains of Malagos, Davao City co-founded by Mindanao artist, Kublai Millan, who is known for his indigenous art works and gigantic sculptures.
The DFA has partnered with ManilART Foundation, Inc. to bring to the world as a never before Virtual Reality-ready tour of Balai Kalipay, where indigenous art collections and huge sculptures are sprawled in the museum garden.
ManilART is an art fair now on its 13th year co-presented by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as a venue for its Museums and Galleries Month Event to promote Philippine culture through visual arts that bring in together renowned and amateur artists here and abroad to showcase their creative works. ManilART envisions the Philippines to be a premiere art hub in Asia. This year’s theme of the ManilART Fair is “Continuing Legacies.” As it has been challenging for art galleries to have physical exhibits, ManilART Fair 2021 will launch digital exhibits, virtual art talks and satellite site tours such as Balai Kalipay.
