The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam, led by Consul and Acting Head of Post Alex O. Vallespin, joins the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December 2020, an advocacy campaign that is observed annually as mandated by Proclamation 1172 s. 2006.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, underlying gender issues that further affected marginalized and vulnerable sectors have come to fore. It highlighted the challenge of strengthening the functionality of VAW Desks, which serves as the first line of response for survivors.
In consonance with the campaign theme "VAW-free community starts with Me" for the period 2016 to 2021, this year's focus is on capacitating VAW Desk Officers and other officials on how to handle VAW cases. It also reiterates everyone's commitment and contributions on ending VAW and calls on the general public to make a personal commitment to end violence against women and children.
At the forefront of the Campaign is the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) . Visit PCW's website for more information on activities and how to support the Campaign.
